Guide

Set up NZBGet
with EasyUsenet.

NZBGet is written in C++ and needs hardly any memory or processing power. That makes it the first choice for a NAS, a Raspberry Pi and any server that runs around the clock anyway.

Guides · NZBGet
Light and fast. Like SABnzbd, NZBGet is operated through a web interface – usually at http://localhost:6789. The default login is nzbget / tegbzn6789; change it after your first login.
1

Install NZBGet

Download the version for your system. On a NAS you will find NZBGet in the package centre; on a Raspberry Pi the quickest route is the package manager or a Docker image.

  • Windows, macOS, Linux, Synology, QNAP, Unraid, Raspberry Pi
  • About 30 MB of free disk space – considerably less than SABnzbd
  • A browser to operate it
2

Open the web interface

Open http://localhost:6789, or on a NAS its address with port 6789 instead. Log in with the default credentials and then change them under Settings → Security.

3

Enter the server details

Open Settings → News-Servers and enter our details under Server1 . Set Encryption to yes – that is TLS/SSL.

4

Test the connection

Click Test Connection. On success NZBGet reports “Successful”. After that, be sure to click Save all changes – NZBGet does not save changes automatically.

Most common mistake: it does not save automatically. First Save all changes, then reload. If it still does not work, check port 563 and Encryption = yes.
5

Folders and categories

Under Settings → Paths you set the folders; under Settings → Categories you can optionally add rules that sort finished downloads automatically.

  • InterDir: downloads in progress
  • DestDir: finished downloads
  • Categories save a lot of tidying up later
6

Start your first download

Upload an NZB file via Add or drag it into the window. NZBGet downloads across all 100 connections, verifies, repairs where needed and unpacks automatically.

Questions about NZBGet

What we are asked most about this guide.

Is NZBGet free?
Yes, NZBGet is open source and free. You only pay for your Usenet access with us.

NZBGet needs considerably less memory and processing power. On a NAS, a Raspberry Pi or an old machine it is the better choice. On the desktop most people take SABnzbd because the interface is more comfortable.
What are the default credentials?
Username nzbget, password tegbzn6789. Change both right after your first login under Settings → Security.
What does Encryption = yes mean?
That is NZBGet's term for TLS/SSL. Together with port 563 it means your connection is encrypted.
My changes have gone – why?
NZBGet does not save automatically. After every change you have to click Save all changes .
How many connections should I set?
100 – that is our maximum, and it is included in every plan.
Setup is not working – what now?
Write to our support team. We know NZBGet on NAS systems too and will help you further.
